This Just In (the mail): Coral Cardigan

On Fragile Thursday, a package came in the mail from D-Med, who is – despite the nipple talk in yesterday’s post– obviously a goddess. The package contained this brilliant coral cardigan and packet of the most delicious Traverse Bay Fruit Co. dried cherries. All other coral cardigans and dried cherries pale in comparison to these definitive items. In short, I am declaring them to be literal incarnations of the Platonic Ideal of each of these items.*

In celebration, I added my favourite casual skirt, the striped top I’ve only recently come to recognize as a neutral, easy shoes, and a load of accessories (still channeling Style Underdog, though in this case, I am the pale, pale copy of her Platonic Ideal). Then, I took a walk on the wild side and used a prop in one photo.

Cotton & lycra cardigan: MAK (gifted)
Striped jersey top: Linea Domani (via Winners, remixed)
Army-green cotton embellished skirt: Smart Set
Necklace: gifted
Shoes: (label’s rubbed off) (via Shoe Heaven)
Watch:
Grandpa’s Pulsar (remixed)
Bracelets: gifted & thrifted

Even though one of my most charming and capable former students dropped by to chat for a bit yesterday, it was still a tough day work-wise. So, after this post, I’m stepping away from the keyboard for 24 hours. I wish it could be more, but the deadline approacheth, so this is all I can afford.

* For philosophic sticklers, I acknowledge that a literal incarnation of a Platonic Ideal is impossible (at least that’s what my limited knowledge of Platonic philosophy tells me). But I’m using this phrase in its more contemporary popular sense (i.e. a basic internet search taught me that the Platonic Ideal of a sandwich had been discovered, recently, in Britain).

What’s the longest period you’ve been away from your work/computer?
Do you miss it when you’re gone?

Also, have you discovered any other Platonic Ideals on this plane?

  1. Wow, what a great outfit! You did a great job with the accessories, and that is such a pretty shade of coral. I wish someone would mail me something that nice and obviously perfect for me.I hope you had a good 24 hours off and feel recharged and ready to tackle that deadline!

  2. I love the coffee drinking photo and your shoes! The longest I've been away from work in the past seven years is 11 days. Those eleven days were my honeymoon. I have had a few 4-5 breaks from work here and there, but usually that's the longest I've been able to go without having to write a lecture or prepare for a conference or feel incredible guilt for not working on getting a publication out.I found the Platonic ideal of squash at the Farmer's Market last week.Enjoy your 24 hours of break!

  3. OK, I'm a little late here, but I had to comment on this outfit–striped cowl neck tucked in plus cardigan and bracelets = one of my favorite things ever.Hope you're doing better! My sister's research was on the Holocaust and she went through many rough periods too. She didn't use clothes for comfort so much, but did different things with her hair.

  4. DM: Seriously?! I'm headed over there right now – or right after I respond to AUH.AUH: Thanks! Hair changes are also a good plan. I'm trying to grow mine (possibly for the last time, ever, before I submit and have a chin-length bob forEVER); but if I weren't, I'd be dying and chopping all over the place.

  6. Hmm. I tend to think of male nethers when someone says "nice package." For example, when I watch Journey's old "Don't Stop Believing" video on YouTube, there are some, well, "nice" doesn't seem like the right word. Let's just say there's some package-highlighting going on there.

  7. E-Jo: I know, right? Jentine at My Edit taught me about stripes as neutrals. It is a whole new world. Also, ha! "December."DM: My mistake. Obviously, that's what I meant to say.LHdM: 11 days! You win. That is some serious guilt-avoiding stamina, and I aspire to your greatness. Also, the squash of squashes, huh? For eating, then, or bronzing?A: Thanks! Also, there could be mail for you. Just wait until we become better friends. . . . S: I like the "off for one day over the weekend" plan. I think I might need to institute such a rule here in The Republic of New Utopia (the name the Hubs & I have assigned our apartment – we've got 2 benevolent oligarchs & 1 fuzzy citizen).AFtK: Silver medalist! And I hear and acknowledge the appropriateness of the goddess-nipple talk relationship.SU: We are like this (I'm doing the fingers to eye thing). Good to know the Cool Internet Style Clique is beginning to have some real world effects.

  8. I love that cardigan – great outfit.I usually have the computer off for at least one day during the weekend. I'll be away for a couple of days this coming week.

  10. I didn't turn my computer on yesterday, so that's 24 hours I would say. I'm glad your taking a break. When you do return, please check out what I'm wearing on today's (Sunday) post. We are one in the same, sister, one in the same!

  11. I would echo D-Med's "Because of her nipple talk comment."You look lovely in these pictures. I am sorry that it was a rough work day and congratulations on the 24 hour break. The longest I have ever gone without the computer? I spent a week on PEI last year, sans computer.

  13. Ohmigod, I love this outfit so much. I have a black & white striped top that I never thought to pair with my army green skirt that is very similar to this one. I'm going to be all over this pairing once it cools down enough here to wear sleeves. So, in like December.
