D-Med got me thinking about tights, and I’m trying not to wear so much red and black. To quote a Style Nation citizen’s recent post*, “that’s all I’ve got.”
Except that I don’t like these boots anymore. But I had to talk about commodity fetishism in this morning’s lecture. The boots are integral to this discussion. Ok. Now, that’s all.
Wool dress: Calvin Klein (via Melanie Lyne)
Silk giant-rose-print scarf: no clue (I hate tags on scarves, so like a dummy, I cut it off & threw it away)
Swirl-pattern tights: Hue (via Winners)
Boots: Feet First
This is about as short as I can comfortably go, skirt-wise, in the classroom. And I ALWAYS wear this dress with black tights. It’s too short to wear with coloured tights for teaching, right?

In Professorial Fashion 
I have decided that dark purple is the new black. Alert the StyleNation (Anne already knows). You could totally do purple tights with this–just different enough without being all black (kind of like what you are already doing with the swirly tights you have on). I definitely think darker rather than brighter tights with this since I would be self conscious about writing on the board in a dress that is on the shorter side. Because I am also on the shorter side and nothing ruins your credibility like flashing a bunch of first-years. I think they taught us that at new faculty orientation. If they didn't, they should.
I would TOTALLY wear colorful tights with this dress — y'know, if I had any or a black dress this lovely. Rad stole my suggestion about colorful tights peeking out over tall boots! It's hard to tell from the picture what the details of the dress are (but, ohmigod, I love the sleeves) but you could do a colorful belt to tie in with tights. I find all black a little stark and somber on me so I'd want to add color in a significant way. That said, you look fabulous. And teensy. Don't worry, I won't let the internet get too far away from me.
Maybe you grew? Or your posture has improved? I'm sure it's possible for dry-cleaners to shrink thing.I think a warm-yet-foxy longsleeved LBD has huge holiday potential. Perfect backdrop for loads of sparkly neck-danglies and maybe some bright red tights. Invent events if need be: out for holiday drinks (hot booze!) and indulgent dessert with the Hubs?

Yes, it's possible for the dry cleaners to shrink things, and they even have a disclaimer for it if it happens. I don't understand. Don't we have to take things to the dry cleaner so they won't shrink? And I think that grey sparkly tights with this dress would glam it up a notch. Though I, like you, wonder where one is supposed to wear all of the holiday wear that we are supposed to be wearing at this time of year. I never get invited to fancy parties during the holidays because no one I know has them. Everyone I know is too exhausted by the time the holiday arrives. And by the holiday itself.

I'm with Dorky. Some darker shades of tights might be a way to mix it up.

That scarf is beautiful, and looks great with basic black! I'd definitely try colored tights with this, but I don't know about teaching in it. I just always feel self-conscious about shorter lengths at work for much more than walking between my desk and the coffee machine. But that's just me.I'll be online all through the holiday, because of the holiday. My parents are coming to town, which will be nice yet stressful (Fella and I are going booze shopping for the occasion tomorrow), so I can always use the escape that Stylenation offers 🙂 I do hope that at least you Canadians will be around if others aren't!
I will be, apparently, internetting from my parents' living room while my dad naps in front of the teevee.I wouldn't wear super-bright tights with that, but some kind of muted pattern of gray and black, or black and dark colors, would be just fine.
This outfit is basically beyond B.A. Whatever is a step above B.A. I quickly looked for them online but was foiled. (Darn you, free market!) I think that brighter tights could work as long as you wore tall boots(I'm totally cribbing off E-Jo, who recommended boots with loud tights to D-Med).Anyway, I like everything about this outfit, and those boots are sexy. Sorry you don't like them. I bet they worked pretty well to teach commodity fetishism.Blokey and I aren't going anywhere. I detest Thanksgiving travel, and I'm too stressed to do it this year (maybe next year). We will travel to a neighborhood a mile away for vegetarian Thanksgiving meal.
I would still wear that dress with colored tights, but the hemline is too short for my taste to wear without tights in the classroom. Wow! I am so much more sartorially conservative than I was a couple of years ago… I love the patterned tights and the scarf!I will be offline on Thursday, but other than that I'll be around. I'm taking some much-needed down time and not working tomorrow or on T-day. Friday, though, I will be working on an article draft and grading.
I love how you styled the scarf here – it almost looks like the collar of a shirt under the dress.I suspect that the contrast of colored tights against that much black would be intense. Which is not a bad thing, but it all depends on your comfort level in the classroom.As for turkey day, we already celebrated once back in October (Canadians represent!) and will celebrate again twice (ugh) this weekend. And you'd think I'd be fuller, but one of the stops involves turkey, sweet potatoes covered with marshmallows, and green beans that are cooked 'till they're grey (ick, ick, and more ick), so I'll be packing the snacks in my purse to sneak-eat in the hallway.
