Boot Porn, by any other name would smell as sweet

Remember these?  These boots that I could never find again after 2008 and, if I could, I could never afford?  Well, I still can’t afford ’em.

But I can afford these:

Especially when I score them on eBay for much less than a hundred bones, which is the only way I can justify owning two pairs of heeled, brown boots.

Mad Men Sweater: Banana Republic (anxiety purchase at the Chicago MLA; I wore it to give my paper but it  didn’t help)
Mad Men Boobs: Mine
Skirt: Closet (that’s the label, but it also came out of my closet)
Tights: Warm Legwear
Boots: Frye (via eBay)
Lectures: “The Nun’s Priest’s Tale”, and The Taming of the Shrew and The Rape of the Lock, later the same day
This is a cozy ensemble.  Everything is wooly except for the boots.  And wooly is the order of the day here in IPF, Eastern Division.  It’s always wet here, but for a large part of the teaching term, it is wet and cold.
I say bring it, Canada.  I am no rookie.  I can get through five centuries in one day, yo.
What keeps you toasty and style-y when the winter wants otherwise?  Do you take names in The Winter?

  1. I'm like Cynthia–in summer, I can never think of anything to wear. In winter, it's always boots and a ton of layers. I love these boots. I have similar ones, without the heel. Your perky pink blouse is a nice addition.

  2. Wow, GREAT boots! And that sweater is quite flattering for the MMBs (I feel weird typing "boobs" at work – woops, I just did). When it gets really cold here, I do resort to big, bulky warm sweaters. So, basically, frumpiness. I was frumped up this morning because it was so damn cold out, then changed 4 times (this should be impressive given I only have 30 items at my disposal) and finally put on a dress because I feel like I have plenty of time to be frumpy come January or February.

  3. Thank you all for supporting my bootage love. I do feel ridiculous owning two pairs of brown heeled boots but I feel ridiculous most of the time anyway. It's how I roll.Rad and LHdM, these boots reminded me of you two especially for some reason. Probably because you are winning the internet in boot-wearing. Cynthia, however, medals in boot porn this week. Go check out her new blue suede boots! And thanks for noticing my cheesecake pose, Baxter. There are a number of hilarious outtakes that gave their life in order for this pose to be possible. Let us have a moment to remember the hard-working outtake.

  5. What a lovely ensemble! Retro and modern all at once – I love the skirt and the boots? Swoon! As for winter, I'm from an icy rock in the North Atlantic, so hells yeah I take names. I am a vision in fleece and down. I wear a tuque, sometimes 2. Bring it, winter.

  6. "Mad Men Boobs – Mine" WIN!!! We should all embrace our bits. And that skirt, it's awesome. I love it. I'm looking everywhere for skirts. My mom would pass out if she knew how girly I was becoming just from reading your blog! Inspirations to TomBoys everywhere!!!

  7. Those boots are fantastic. The Style Nation is just hitting it out of the park with the boots lately.I am from Wisconsin. Winter…is my element. I will take all the names. Seriously, all layered up and booted up in winter, I feel really awesome and fierce. When it's summer and I'm so limited in what I can put on I tend to feel frumpy.

  8. How have I not bought the Mini-FR the lobster costume (it's full coverage)? Who needs dignity in a lobster costume? I so wish I could dress up my cats.Chaucee, we're glad you found us too! We have a giveaway …

  9. Holy crap, that's some sweet bootage. I love the mix of the BA boots with the Mad Men-esque outfit. In terms of keeping warm in winter, my advice is move to IPF South. We don't get winter here (despite what wimpy locals might say). Today was the first day I've put on a coat. Though it was cold enough (below freezing) when I got up that the mini-FR needed a sweater. Also, how have I not posted that picture of him in his Christmas togs? It's like I'm pretending to allow him dignity.

  11. Woah, looking smoking hot in those beautiful brown boots. Total boot porn (and envy coming at from TCC East). I love the proportions and lines of this very Mad Men outfit. You manage to look retro, sweet, warm, and very B.A. It hasn't gotten cold here yet, but when it does- boots (with waterproofing), wool tights, many sweaters, and very silly scarves.

  12. BOOT LUST! Amazing. And you already know my feelings toward Frye. Nice busemination. 🙂 So, ever since Sal posted about how to use ebay the other day, I've had a saved search for some Frye boots that I regret not buying two and a half years ago. It's very exciting.
