Boot Porn: IPF North edition

How I adore this part of the academic term! You know, the honeymoon period where students still have enough energy to get fired up about course material, and our classroom relationship is untainted by poorly constructed argumentation to which I’ve had to assign poor grades.

What I adore less (or not at all) are the giant piles of marking that begin pouring in about now and only gain momentum for the remainder of the term. But let’s not focus on the negative for this tiny moment. Because what’s also awesome about this time of year is boot wearing. I know you’ve been doing your part, StyleNation; and I’ve been doing mine:

Boot-based ensemble #1 – Black & Red for Teaching:

Khaki blazer with pleated collar detail:  (tag removed, via Value Village)
Black polyester jersey dress: Fylo by Nylon (via Winners, remixed)
Silk multi-colour pashmina: gifted from my mom
Black & grey leopard-print tights: Hue (via Winners)
Red leather buttoned boots: Miss Mooz (remixed)

Tights & Boot Porn close-up:

Bootage ensemble #2 – Giant flaming floral (for teaching):

Polyester faux-wrap jersey dress: Argenti (Canadian designer – hurrah!)
Nearly-invisible white cotton cami: H&M
Necklace: see below
Pewter patterned knee highs/bootliners: Hue (via The Bay)
Red leather buttoned boots: as above
Back of the dress – sort of the best part, yes?:
Jewellery close-up, just in case we care what $2 at Vallooo Villahhge gets us these days:
That’s all, Y’all. Except that I’m heading out asap to check out some more of your fall boot-wearing!
Have you any fun thrift finds this season, StyleNation?p.s. more gender-issues-in-academic-setting ranting coming up soon, so stay tuned

  1. Huh. Good to know. Thanks. We're in the process of switching from the epically stupid and user-unfriendly Angel Learning, and Moodle's one of the options up for consideration. 'Any thoughts on Moodle vs. Blackboard or other such things?

  2. I, too, learned about the knee socks under boots from the interwebs. Specifically, I learned from Rad in Broolyn (of The Cohabiting Closet) and IPF's Southern Division Head, Dorky.

  3. You are indeed a delicate Canadian flower, Miss C! Also, I have given up trying not to sweat in class. I just wear whatever and assume I'll be wringing everything out afterward. That said, I hear the heat is much more oppressive there than here, so I feel you!

  4. I would love to wear boots in the classroom, but find them too hot–I've found myself feeling swoon-y mid class from the overheatedness.  Alas.  I blame it on my excessive Canadian cold blood rebelling against the warmer US climate (never has this problem in Ottawa)!

  5. This semester, I learned to use the interwebz to grade my assignments for me.  It's an undergrad gen-ed science class and they won't suffer academic malpractice if I ask them mostly multiple choice questions.  It's a little more work up front but it's so much nicer to have them complete their homework online and get immediate feedback without me having to lift a finger…

  6. Thanks Anne! We had a prolonged summer, too. But my legs are covered in moving-related bruises of late, so boot wearing was necessary. You know, or pant wearing. But pants are too sweaty in summer, especially while pacing in front of a giant class of undergraduates.

  7. Due to an Indian Summer here, I've been really delinquent on my fall boot wearing.  Woops. But hot damn, I love these boots!  Almost as much as I love the giant flaming floral dress!  Those colors look great together!

  8. Who are you and what have you done with the for-realz D-Med? What are you talking about, "too hot. . .here"? Also, perhaps your knee-high lace-up babies need to be costume uniform material (you know: once the heat wave lets up).

  9. Dude. Why not let us be the judges of your attire? Return to the StyleNation in photographic form, even just for a little bit! Do it!Also, C game is totally allowed when you're broiling and teaching. 'Just sayin'. . .And finally, I know, right? The dress was a summer season-end find at a local Canadian designer-focused boutique. Obvy, polyester's better in fall than summer.

  10. I live in awe of your crazily-sped-up-and-yet-somehow-also-drawn-out terms, Raquelita. In awe. Marking sucketh at all times, but particularly when the honeymoon is over and there's no unmitigated student marvel to buoy us on. Solidarity! Also, thanks!

  11. My classes don't seem to have a honeymoon period because everyone thinks that what I am teaching is hard.  They are wrong and lazy.  I'm pretty sure that if I had those boots my students would be more afraid of me and bring their brains to my classroom.  I need to bring flaming dresses to my classroom.  It's too hot to wear boots here right now.  Yes, you heard that right.  It's freakish.

  12. Dude. These are awesome. I especially love #1: that pashmina is gorgeous. Way to go, A-Dubs Mom! And way to go on the nationalist shopping! The dress is beautiful.

  13. What, you look this fashionable and amazing to teach?  I need to step it up.  You are looking smoking hot in these outfits.  These boots are uber-flattering (hello shapely and leggy!) and I covet both dresses.  I blame the hot weather here, but let's be honest, I've been bringing my C game.  How have you made polyester look so good?  My honeymoon is officially over starting tomorrow, when my undergrads get their first exam.  I'm hating the grading (the worst part of teaching, after the "how to deal with obvious plagiarism" bit) but trying to keep it in perspective.  Looking forward to the rant (although I am sorry for the experience that led to it.  le grrr!)

  14. That Argenti dress is fabulous and those boots are too! I am apparently in week 8 of the term, so I think I can safely say that the honeymoon is over, but sadly the marking is not….

  15. I seriously plan on stealing those boots right off your feet. The living off cookies while I prep for conferences and grade frantically has driven me into a state of near-constant delusion…you've been warned; I'm cranky and on a 4 day sugar high and seriously digging those boots…xoxo ~ Courtneyhttp://sartorialsidelines.com
